Prepared for eIDAS 2.0 and the EUDI Wallet
The European Union is on the verge of a digital identity revolution. With the introduction of eIDAS 2.0, a single European digital identity standard will emerge: the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet). Each EU country will offer such wallets to citizens and businesses to link national digital IDs to other personal data (such as driver’s license, diplomas, bank accounts). The goal? To give Europeans full control over their own data when using online services, and to prevent unnecessary data sharing. In addition, organizations that are legally required to identify customers will be obligated to accept this European wallet as a login method.

Yivi becomes crypto-agile for EUDI compatibility
Yivi is preparing to seamlessly align with the EUDI Wallet standard. We are making our technology crypto-agile — in other words, we ensure that Yivi supports multiple cryptographic credential schemes, protocols, and credential formats. This way, we can maintain our existing privacy-first architecture while also complying with the technical requirements of the new EU wallet.
Crypto-agility is a multi-year effort but is crucial to increase Yivi’s interoperability and value for organizations. By adapting to new standards flexibly, we ensure Yivi remains widely applicable in a changing digital landscape. Concretely, crypto-agility means Yivi:
- Supports multiple cryptographic techniques: Yivi can handle various digital signature and credential standards now and in the future, from the current Idemix technology to emerging standards such as SD-JWT VC, and even future post-quantum algorithms.
- Embraces industry-standard protocols: We are adapting Yivi to work with open ecosystems like OpenID for Verifiable Credential Issuance and OpenID for Verifiable Presentations, ensuring issuance and verification of attributes happen via widely accepted protocols. This improves interoperability with other wallets and systems in Europe.
- Ensures future-proof security: By quickly responding to new cryptographic insights, Yivi will always use the most secure options. Think of preparations for post-quantum cryptography to ensure long-term protection of user privacy. This crypto-agile approach makes Yivi EUDI-wallet compatible. You can count on Yivi to integrate effortlessly with the European digital identity infrastructure as soon as it becomes available. At the same time, Yivi continues to excel in what it always has: privacy-friendly login and data sharing, without friction.
This crypto-agile approach makes Yivi EUDI-wallet compatible. You can therefore count on Yivi to integrate smoothly with the European digital identity infrastructure as soon as it becomes available. At the same time, Yivi continues to do what it has always done well: privacy-friendly login and data sharing, without friction.
Privacy remains the highest priority
Although the arrival of the EUDI Wallet is a positive step for digital autonomy, the current standard does not yet offer all the refined privacy mechanisms that Yivi users already enjoy. From the start, Yivi has been built according to privacy by design: you are in charge of your digital data, and no one else. That philosophy remains our guiding principle as we integrate with eIDAS 2.0.
- Selective sharing, no prying eyes: Just like before, with Yivi you never share more information than strictly necessary. For example, if you need to prove you’re over 18 online, Yivi doesn’t require you to reveal your birthdate or provide a passport copy — a simple “18+” tick is enough. The receiving party only knows you’re an adult, nothing more. All personal data stays local in your Yivi app; there is no central database tracking where or when you share anything. Even issuing parties (issuers) or receiving parties (verifiers) cannot profile you across different transactions. Your privacy is technically secured.
- Privacy guarantees within the EU standard: We actively contribute to community discussions to make the EUDI Wallet as privacy-friendly as possible. For example, we advocate for unlinkability (making transactions untraceable) as a core requirement in the EU standard — something Yivi already supports. Should the first version of the EUDI Wallet lack these safeguards, Yivi ensures you still have them. Thanks to our crypto-agile upgrade, we can continue applying additional privacy techniques on top of the standard, so you remain fully protected within eIDAS 2.0.
In short, we are integrating with the European wallet without compromising on privacy. Yivi will always set the bar higher to protect your data and autonomy.
